Dean Shinagel Awarded Honorary Degree


On May 22, Dean Michael Shinagel was in Quito, Ecuador, as a guest of the International University of Ecuador to attend their degree awarding ceremony. The Chancellor of the University, Marcelo Fernandez, presided over the robing ceremonies and awarded Dean Shinagel a degree of doctor honoris causa for his contributions to professional continuing education. Also awarded an honorary doctorate was Dr. Fabián Alarcón Rivera, President of the Republic of Ecuador.

The following afternoon Dean Shinagel gave a public lecture on "Strategic Planning in Continuing Education" sponsored by the International University of Ecuador and attended by more than 200 graduate students, educators, and government officials. That evening he and his wife, Marjorie Lee North, were guests of the President and First Lady at a banquet in the Presidential Palace in Quito.
