After graduating from the Extension School, Gretchen Willenberg, CPC '98, was hired by Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers in Chicago as their editorial coordinator where she learned HTML and the graphics programs necessary to manage the company's website. She then returned to Harvard Extension (via distance learning) to take a website development course "to really learn technology." Gretchen now works as an interactive copy editor and assistant internet content producer for SmartMoney.com in New York City. Utilizing her publishing and editing skills as well as her internet training, she copyedits stories, checks links and graphics, and enters and codes text changes before stories appear online. The CPC Program proved very useful for Gretchen. The classes honed her skills and the internship gave her on-the-job training. Now, working in publishing on the World Wide Web, she says, "with both editorial and website skills, my future is wide open. I love New York City, but friends in San Francisco and London have been mentioning exciting opportunities. . . ." |
