Mary Catherine Brouder was accepted to Albany, Hofstra, New York, and Pace law schools, as well as Columbia University’s School of Journalism; she is attending Columbia University.

Timothy Delaney has been accepted to the New School’s master in fine arts/creative writing program.

Peter DeWolf is pursuing a master’s degree in history at Boston College.

Renu Madan was accepted to the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Siza Mtimbiri has been accepted into the master’s program in educational technology at the Extension School.

Therese Nurse is pursuing a master’s degree in journalism at the Extension School.

Chester Phillips III is pursuing a master’s degree in divinity at Harvard Divinity School.

Reinhard Schumak was accepted to Carnegie Mellon, Boston University, and Boston College’s business school. He plans to attend Carnegie Mellon.

Jennifer Wang has been accepted to New York University’s Stern Business School.

Michael Willett has been accepted to the master’s degree program in environmental management at the Extension School.

Marybeth Doyle was accepted to the master in counseling psychology program at Northeastern University. She began studies in September.

Panayotis A. Yannakogeorgos is studying global change and governance at the Division of Global Affairs at Rutgers University. He is also an adviser to the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations on issues regarding the Middle East, including Iran, in the Security Council.

Arturo Grinberg has been accepted to the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Direccion De Empresa, the business school of the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico.

Carlin Chang is completing medical school at the Chinese University of Hong Kong at the age of 23. She has just finished a year of internship in Hong Kong. While in medical school she did two summer clerkships in the United States, one through Brown University at Brown Rhode Island Hospital and one through Yale University at the Yale New Haven Hospital. Carlin plans to specialize in neurology and is applying to residences at several hospitals in the Boston area.

Tony L. Brown was appointed Chief Executive Officer of R.K. Froom and Company Medical Devices in March of 2006. In May of 2006, he completed his didactic training as a student physician at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Tony will begin rotations after completing the United States Medical Licensing Exam this summer.

Nancy Mara-Aldrich graduated with a JD from the Southern New England School of Law in May 2006.

Rudly Raphael is the chief operations officer of an online research company and has launched his own consulting firm.

Sally Cragin writes the “Moon Signs” column for the Boston Phoenix under the name Symboline Dai. She notes that Gregory Nagy’s classics courses at the Extension School inspire her column.

Daniel R. Ford married Phyllis Merikallio. He worked as an information technology consultant in Tokyo, Japan last year. He has returned to the Boston area and now works as an IT consultant in the city’s financial district.

Eric Kocen (AA ’97) volunteered to go to Iraq with a military intelligence unit after graduating from the Extension School. He now works as an army recruiter. He invites anyone interested in careers in the army to contact him.

Ara Sarkissian performed an original composition as part of a concert of 20th-century music at Pforzheimer House on April 29, 2006.

Laurel Simmons earned an SM from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1999. She is grants director and project director at the Cambridge-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of health care throughout the world.

Carol A. Avard-Hicks owns and manages Avard Law Offices, a disability and tort practice, in Florida. She and her husband, Robert Hicks, ABE ’71, enjoy hiking in the mountains and serving as volunteers for the Southwest Florida Symphony.

Harrison E. Livingstone has reissued many of his publications through iUniverse, including his 1967 novel, HARVARD, John: A Story of the Sixties, which deals with the 1969-70 Harvard campus disorders.

Ann Bert Reuter was elected in November 2004 to a four-year term on the Indian River County District School Board in Florida.

Christina Dunn is working on a PhD in astronomy. She is an adjunct lecturer in astronomy at the University of Wisconsin at Fox Valley and Marian College in Indiana.

Bruce C. Wenning became a garden and environmental writer for the Newton TAB. He also launched a successful $10,000 fundraising campaign for Massachusetts Audubon called, “Friends of Habitat’s Formal Gardens.”

Clare G. M. Keller has served as a teaching assistant for Extension Lecturer and ALM Program Director Sue Weaver Schopf’s Victorian and Irish literature courses. She also does volunteer work for the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross and rounds out her busy schedule by spending time with her grandchildren.

Maxine Meilleur is assisting in the formation of the Harvard Club of Kuwait. As a naturalized Kuwaiti citizen, she plans to vote in the first parliamentary election open to women in Kuwait.

George (Ges) Selmont directed Wait ’Til Next Year, a film about the historic 2004 Red Sox season, which aired on NESN, the New England Sports Network.

Heidi Jo Blair is an assistant professor in government at Cy-Fair College in Houston, Texas. She is completing her doctorate in human services at Walden University and is engaged to Gregory Green, a fire fighter for the Houston Fire Department and fellow PhD student at Walden. They are planning a December 2006 wedding.

Bernardo Navarro sold his company, HomeMortgage, to Countrywide Home Loans.

Anthony J. Connors received his PhD in History from Clark University in May 2005. He recently retired from Oracle Corporation.

Douglas Holder has published a collection of poetry, Wrestling with my Father (Pittsburgh: Yellow Pepper Press 2005). His small press, Ibbetson Street Press, has recently published several small volumes of poetry, including Housekeeping, by Philip E. Burnham, Jr. (2005), and The Life of All Worlds, by Marc Widershien (2004).

Martin Comack is working on a doctoral dissertation in political science at Northeastern University.

Harold McKnight writes that he is developing a piece of Florida waterfront property as “a site for concrete poetry,” although “no concrete is involved.” This year, he plans to teach at the London School of Economics and University College.

June Beisch published Fatherless Woman (Cape Cod Literary Press 2004), a collection of poems. In recent years, she has taught at Massachusetts Bay Community College, Emerson College, and the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. Her poetry and literary criticism have appeared in many journals, including the Harvard Review and the Virginia Quarterly Review

Daniel Elias has been appointed as the Director of the Peabody Essex Museum’s “Education through Cultural and Historical Organizations” (ECHO) department. ECHO is a federally funded educational and cultural enrichment initiative serving hundreds of thousands of children and adult continuing learners in Alaska, Hawaii, and Massachusetts each year.

Vivian Orozco Chagui is a financial analyst in Franchise Lending of Sovereign Bank.

Mahmut Ipsirli began an MBA program at Fatih University and is a partner in MAGISTILO LLC, an advertising company.

Levani R. Lipton established the Ananda Foundation, a 501c3 organization that offers assistance and funding to NGOs and grassroots organizations to eradicate worldwide poverty and suffering. Lipton was a featured guest on Voices of Abyssinia TV, a weekly television program featuring Ethiopian news in the Cambridge, Malden, Boston, and Somerville areas.

Merce Nursalim is employed as a marketer at Pt. Bukit Bara En-Gedi Energi, a family-owned coal company that does trading throughout Indonesia and other parts of the world.

Brian Smith is an Ebay entrepreneur involved in buying and selling digital cameras.

Bolanle Asiru was assistant vice president at Credit Suisse First Boston in the London Office and is now with Barclays Bank, London, as a consultant.

Nilgun Aytekin is employed in the sales department at Glassware Group of Sisecam, the largest glass producer in Turkey. She is an active member of the Harvard Club of Turkey.

Melissa Byrd is completing an MBA at Babson College in global management and marketing. She was promoted to marketing manager for Aramis and Designer Fragrances, a division of the Estée Lauder Company in New York City.

Ayça Gul Gunes is employed in the human resources department at Glassware Group of Sisecam, the largest glass producer in Turkey. She is an active member of the Harvard Club of Turkey.

Hideki Kano is employed in the banking industry in Japan. He is preparing to take the GMAT and plans to begin graduate school in 2007.

Michael J. Munday is vice president of operations at Warner Power Conversion, LLC in Warner, New Hampshire. His previous position was director of operations at Magellan Aerospace.

Monica Sellmeister Bueno is marketing superintendent for Liberty Seguros, the Brazilian subsidiary of Liberty Mutual. She is responsible for marketing strategy, institutional marketing, and public relations.

Guadelupe Cernusco resides in Cordoba, Argentina and works in public relations in a communications agency, Latinadv.

Alberto Jimenez is a strategy consultant for the Financial Markets Group of IBM, based in New York City.

Carolina Sanz is employed for Hosa-Denmar, a flower export company with locations in Colombia and Ecuador.

Mohammed Ali Shariff completed a second master’s degree in development management from the Development Studies Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has returned to India to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Governance Reforms and Infrastructure Development Division as a consultant.

Andrew Male is pursuing an MBA at Case Western University’s Weatherhead School of Management where he was named an alumni association scholar. He is studying banking and finance and expects to graduate in 2007.

Thomas Moonan was promoted to general manager of West Coast Operations for Williams-Sonoma, Inc.

Federico José Cruz is currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in Latin American studies at the University of Salamanca, Spain. After presenting his thesis on the quality of representation in Latin America, he plans to relocate to Paris or Spain to work for an NGO or multilateral institution.

Ursula Leitzman was awarded a master’s degree in intercultural relations in 2004 and serves as a manager for training and development at International Orientation (IOR) Global Services.

Deniz Tura earned her MBA in international management from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.

Luis Carlos Velez joined CNN en Español as an anchor and senior producer on January 1, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to that, he was a senior international producer at Caracol Noticias in Colombia, following a stint as anchor and producer of Portafolio TV at City TV Bogotá, also in Colombia. He decided to launch his career in media after working for Enron until its bankruptcy.

Mark Canha was promoted to principal at Prism Venture Partners of Westwood, Massachusetts. He has closed its fifth venture capital fund, raising $250 million from limited partners to invest in high-tech and life sciences start-ups. Prism’s new fund brings its total capital under management to about $1.25 billion.

Toru Washio completed his MBA at Australian National University in 2002. He now works as a global investment researcher at Goldman Sachs in Japan.

Mehmet Baris Hitay was awarded an MSc in marketing in December 2004 from Aegean University, where he also plans to complete a PhD. He is active with environmental protection and preservation efforts for the Aegean Sea and Turkey. He is a partner in Hitay, Ltd. Co., Izmir, Turkey and manager of Hitay Plaza, a building of commercial and rental tenants.

Michael J. Duke has started up NowDVDnow, an automated DVD movie rental chain in Ireland. The first machine has just been installed in Galway. Ten more are slated to open this year. These high-tech machines are broadband-enabled, use robotic technology, and feature monitors displaying trailers from new releases and advertising from partners and/or the host location, all in a compact footprint roughly the size of a soft-drink vending machine. NowDVDnow plans to have over 30 machines installed by next year and aims to take the business nationwide.

Robyn Ochs is the editor (with Sarah E. Rowley) of a new book, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, an anthology of short personal writings by people in 32 different countries on six continents.

Theresa M. DiLando was honored by the Dana-Farber Institute for ten years of volunteer work with One-to-One, a cancer-care volunteer network. A 12-year breast cancer survivor herself, Theresa invites all Extension alumni interested in volunteer work with cancer patients to contact her.

Terry Barkley, one of the first two students to graduate from the program, retired in 2005 after 32 years as an educator in Alabama and Virginia. He attended Jacksonville State University and graduated from the University of North Alabama and holds graduate degrees from The Citadel and the University of Alabama. He has been named to Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, the Directory of American Scholars, and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame (drums).
