Fall Haiku

Christopher Jones

Maple leaves dangle.
Morning sun through the window.
My eyes are heavy.

Etched maple leaf veins.
Outlines carved in a pumpkin.
Expectant children.

Frost on cold panes--rock candy
windows reflect messy red noses.
We laugh together.

Children pick ripe apples.
Bobbing branches and fruit smiles.
Full apples in gray wind.

First snow, wet then brown.
Children forget hats and coats.
Sunlight burns cold cheeks.
