In memoriam: Andrea Harvey

Andrea Harvey, a 28-year-old Extension School student and high school math teacher at East Boston High School, died February 23. She had been taking courses in the Mathematics for Teaching Program. John Boller, research advisor to the program and an instructor of Harvey's, described her as "terrific in class, very smart and enthusiastic." Harvard math preceptor Thomas Judson said she was "an amazing teacher--one of the best to come through the [Math for Teaching] program." The Extension School has established the Andrea Harvey Thesis Scholarship in her honor. The scholarship will cover the cost of completing the master's thesis in the Mathematics for Teaching Program. Contributions to the Harvey Scholarship should be sent to Ann Wright, 51 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. Checks should be made out to Harvard University, in memory of Andrea Harvey. Contributions may also be made to the Andrea Harvey Memorial Scholarship Fund, Cambridge Teachers Federal Credit Union, 459 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138.
